MRGLSMRC  i have used this software for 6 years both on the pc and the mac. i am currently a user of the pro ver.5.1.4 for mac and writing this review as i dl 5.1.5.

this software has an intelligent interface. the learning curve to understand the software is not steep. and the software does what it promises to do in terms of increasing my reading speed. i don't think i read as fast in real life as i do on the computer though because the words are pumped at me very fast in this app. it compresses time and you have to get into your zone to really appreciate what it does.

my minor beef with the software is that it is not universal-- it is powerpc software running through apple's rossetta. i have brought this up with the publisher and he assures me that an intel version will be ready when snow leopard comes out so there won't be a continuity issue.

i encourage you to test this software as trialware and decide for yourself if it can help you manage your time by reading faster.

you should disregard the review by the n00b who couldn't install the software and griped about it here because it's actually an easy install and the publisher is responsive to emails in a direct and personal way about any sort of problem i have encounter over the years, which mostly consisted of changing my license codes for newer editions.

MTCOBRA  When I launch this program, I get a "box" with the following message (punctuation is quoted exactly):

Insufficient access privileges.

Login as the user that installed "AceReadeer Pro".

Get Info on the AceReader Pro folder.

Change the "Others:" permissions to "Read & Write".

Press "Apply to enclosed items...".[sic]

When I click on "OK" the box closes, and the program quits.

I do not understand the message, nor what to do about it.

MTCOBRA  Took MacUpdate's advice and contacted the developer for assistance. After an exchange of email, the problem was traced to a permission level in Library/Applications Support. I can now begin my 30-day trial evaluation of this software.

Here is the step-by-step solution provided by AceReader Pro's pro, Jim:

1. Double click on your harddrive icon.

2. Double click on the "Library" folder.

3. Do a "Get Info" on "Applications Support" and open the "Sharing & Permissions:" triangle.

4. You need to have "Read & Write" permissions for "admin". If not, click on the lock, enter your password and change the permissions to "Read & Write".

Worked for me!!!

ROY VAN DER WONING  One has to wonder though what business an application of this sort has writing in the system wide library folder (/Library) as opposed to the user library folder (~/Library). Just a thought.
