DESCRIPTION
SysSounds Xtra provides you with dozens of system sound files (... and fun) to expand on the fourteen files available in the OS X System. The sounds, alongside Apple system sounds, will be available in the menus of all the applications on your computer which can use system sounds, including System Preferences. In order to prevent overwriting files of the same names you might have, I put my initials in front of the names.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.1: Added 32 animal sounds.

RORO01  TO USE THESE SOUND FILES ALSO AS iPHONE RINGTONES

1. Go to /Library/Sounds and double click on your chosen file - it will open in iTunes.

2. Select it in iTunes window Library>Music and using the Advanced menu, convert it to AAC version (if your menu item does not read "Create AAC Version" and reads "Create MP3 version" or some other format - go to iTunes>Preferences>General>Import Settings and change the "Import Using" drop down menu to "AAC Encoder"). Another file of the same name will appear above the original file.

3. Select the newly created file and using the File menu, show it in Finder. It is a MPEG4 file with an extension .m4a - drag it to your desktop.

4. Go back to iTunes window Library>Music and trash both files.

5. Change the extension of the MPEG4 file from .m4a to .m4r and then double click on it - it will apear as a ringtone in iTunes window Library>Ringtones.

6. Sinc your iPhone and you are done!

If you wish to convert your own sound file to a ringtone, make sure it is less than 30 seconds in length. You can check it's duration in the Get Info window under More Info.

RORO01  If your own sound file is more than 30 seconds in length - you can edit it using the freeware Audacity.

BRUSETH  Thanks for this. A lot of fun. I’ve always enjoyed having a nice collection of system sounds. And now, once more, that’s just what I’ve got. Thanks again.

MM2270  Had the same issue as Allan, but its easy to fix. Simply rename the download with just .dmg at the end of the filename. Not sure why it comes down with .bg2. Once you do that it opens as a DMG with a double click.

Fun sounds, thanks. I only question why its distributed as a pkg installer. I was inclined to check the package contents to be sure it was safe. It is safe.

Also, a few sounds don't seem to work. When selected in the Sound prefpane, they just play the previously selected sound. Overall though, they work. Provides a little levity to the day. Thanks.

ALLAN NYHOLM  I'm having difficulties mounting the dmg file. Also the bz2 file just extracts into an endless loop meaning if I doubleclick the bz2 file I get a different type of archive that in turn extracts to a bz2 again.

I tried extracting with 7zX and that gave me a faulty dmg file that wouldn't mount.

Can you reupload as just a dmg compressed as standard zip?

RORO01  I've just downloaded the files myself and the disk image has got only .dmg suffix. I can't understand why you have .bz2 suffix as well, bearing in mind that the download link is: http://www.macupdate.com/download.php/29707/SysSounds%20Xtra%201.0.dmg. What operating system are you using? Anyway, just follow the above advice.
